Adele
Adele has become the latest musical darling, winning a number of Grammy’s, producing incredible hits with her rich voice. I know I’ve caught myself doing my own “rendition” of “Rolling In the Deep” and “Someone Like You.” However, my interpretation sounded more like cats fighting over territory and less like the fabulous Adele.
Anyway, with the accolades, talent and attention, Adele has, therefore, made the stunning cover of a recent “Vogue” magazine. And this magazine has, in fashion and image circles, represented a beauty standard.
Adele graced its recent cover, often in spite of narrow beauty definitions and even criticism for her weight, within that same fashion industry which uses “Vogue” as its Bible.
I’m not bringing this up to say, “na-nah, na-nah,” nor to focus extreme attention on beauty, but, rather, to remind us all how God sees us as we really are, whether or not anyone else gets it or celebrates it.
“…”Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature... For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.’”
1 Samuel 16:7
Adele isn’t a size zero, yet she’s now on a beauty magazine. Adele’s voice doesn’t have a physical appearance; yet it has a strong presence.
She defied some “rules.”
You may be like me, sounding like a fighting cat each time you sing one of her songs. But what is in you? What is it which has been rejected, criticized, ridiculed or ignored? How are you written off by some “power that be?” How can God work to trump that certain power?
We don’t need to look to Vogue to see Adele’s beauty; it’s already a done deal. Yes, there may be airbrushing and other magazine correction techniques, but the foundation of who she is has been caught by the camera. And it’s more than skin deep. There’s more to her than the physical. The essence of who she is, at this time, is emerging.
"’I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism.’”
Acts 10:34
This can happen for you as well. Stop arguing with God about it. Why couldn’t He do this for you? What is in you, waiting to shine? Whatever it is, it’s not too hard for Him to accomplish (Jeremiah 32:27)!
God sees you already as beautiful, worthwhile and incredible!!! Plus, He’s for you, not against you (Romans 8:31)!!!
Therefore, take the limits off from Him- and yourself. In your own way, in your own life, you are created to live the victory of who you are, magazine cover or not!
“And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:”
Deuteronomy 28:13
