Looking at
this image of the small turtle gunning for the large strawberry makes me smile.
Been there,
little guy. It’s about going after the dangling promise of more.
For those of
us in recovery from our addictions/compulsions, that promise drives us to chomp
after our appetites.
“Everyone's toil is
for their mouth, yet their appetite is never satisfied.”
Ecclesiastes 6:7
We chase
after our “thing,” our happiness, our answer. And, as we chase, we seem to
forget one crucial element: God.
“For with God nothing shall be
impossible.”
Luke 1:37
Yes, we need
to address why our external things are so important to us. And we need to
acknowledge God is our answer, not
any of those things.
Still, out
of indescribable love and mercy, He wants to bless us with incredible things...
“For he satisfieth the longing soul,
and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.”
Psalms 107:9
And, the cliché
of “God knows best” continues to ring true. The “solution” we believe to be in
our voices, addictions and substances is only
found in Him alone.
It starts with God but extends so much
further, blessing-wise, than we can wrap our minds around.
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard,
neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared
for them that love him.”
1 Corinthians 2:9
“For my thoughts are
not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My
ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
Isaiah 55:8-9
Therefore, whatever
looks “promising,” whatever looks “challenging,” it doesn’t change the hope, the
certainty of Who has the final say.
“Behold, I am the Lord,
the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?”
Jeremiah 32:27
Let’s chomp
away at THAT!
