This is my great grandmother.
She was afflicted with
disordered eating. Back in the 1930s, when this photograph was taken, there was
no language, diagnosing the eating disorder with which she struggled. An eating
disorder is not just anorexia. It can sometimes look like the exact opposite.
It can even look “normal.” But the painful, common denominator is a struggle
within one’s own skin, one which thrives on self-harm and despair.
If you are struggling- or if someone you know is struggling,
there is hope and help. You don’t have to have a particular kind of eating
disorder to quality. Your struggle itself necessitates getting help. Please
reach for it today.
