Day 2:
Now that we
know God is love, we next move on to the matter of first:
“We love him, because he first loved us.”
1 John 4:19
This is a
biggie because, for many of us struggling with disordered eating and image
issues, performance seems to trump grace. Hence, the importance of “first”
comes up. That’s a critical distinction to make; God loved us before we could ever even contemplate loving Him back. This is
quite a mind scrambler, especially for those of us who believe we need to earn
everything: love, grace, value, good treatment…
God loves us
first. There is tremendous grace and
freedom in that for us. It removes the burden we could never carry on our
shoulders.
So, right
now, how do you feel about first? Do you feel you need to initiate and earn
everything, operating in a pressure-filled attack mode? Can you allow God to
reach out to you? He already has.
Your secondary response is next. Just please always keep in mind God’s love
started the whole thing called your incredible life and purpose.
