Day 5:
Again, the
perfection issue comes up for many of us who struggle with image and self-worth
issues. The spiritual significance of this cannot be discounted. A lot of us
believe we are only as good as our results. That could translate into being
pleasing, achieving remarkable results and obtaining an extremely thin
appearance. The mandates are a frequently moving and unrealistic target. But it
all hinges on us being some elusive definition of “good enough.”
Thankfully,
However, God sees to it that our perfection is not required in those
circumstances. Hence, Jesus.
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while
we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8
The reality
is God knew- and God knows- just how
helpless and desperate we are. We cannot achieve perfection and, in and of
ourselves, we are not capable of saving ourselves.
So, the
Answer of Jesus is, long before we reach any place of actually “coming to
Jesus.” It is good news, especially for those of us who believe we’ve gone “too
far,” we’re “too bad” to ever be redeemed. There’s no such thing.
Again, it’s
about God’s love for us, not our performance. So, the challenge is for us,
wherever we may be, to stop struggling with that performance and accept what
is.
It’s already
done. It’s already done.
“...‘It is finished’...”
John 19:30
