The White Squirrel

Today, I saw something quite unusual: an albino squirrel.
Want proof? Here are some photos taken of the little guy on our dumpster.

A white squirrel- it’s virtually unheard of right? I’d never seen one before. But just because it seems ridiculous or impossible, doesn’t mean it can’t happen.

This white squirrel prompted Isaiah 1:18 to my mind:

“Come now, and let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

We can, mired in our sins and struggles, believe it’s hopeless. We’re too far gone; we’re hopeless. We’re too dirty, too useless. It’s over.

It’s not.

When we think of squirrels out there, we think of brown squirrels. But that doesn’t take away from the creation of this white creation.

If we can see ourselves as only crimson, as only the brown squirrel, if you will, why can’t we also see ourselves and white? It’s God Who makes the ultimate judgment. He doesn’t want anyone to be condemned.

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
2 Peter 3:9

He wants all of us: free, pure, defying all the facts and reasons which come against His Word.

“Casting down arguments, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”
2 Corinthians 10:5

Sometimes, in life, the unusual happens. Sometimes, there’s a white squirrel.

Let this anomaly remind you of the truth that there’s no sin which is too much, too far for God to handle and forgive.

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”
Psalm 103:12

You’re not hopeless. When God looks at you, He sees, through His Son, Jesus, someone who is clean, not filthy.

That’s you!

God sees more than just the drab brown squirrel you feel you are now; He sees someone who defies expectations, logic and facts!

He sees His glorious, unique creation! Copyright © 2012 by Sheryle Cruse
