Two Cents

“So, what do you say?” Ever heard that? Most of us, at some point, have been prompted with this manners lesson when we were children. Or perhaps, it was asked of us, to validate whether or not we were in on a plan or scheme of some kind. Whatever the context, it still poses a universal predicament. We have a say in what we say.
“But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.”
Matthew 12:36

Some people refer to it as our “two cents.” It’s our opinion, our perspective, but it always refers to our use of words about a situation of some kind.
So what are we saying, not just about someone else, but about ourselves- TO ourselves? Our “two cents” about ourselves is vitally important to our welfare and our health. To ever think that words are meaningless, without impact or power is doing others and ourselves terrible harm.
“Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
Proverbs 18:21
Even more so, however, are the powerful benefits of applying God’s word to our lives!
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
Isaiah 55:8-9
“As the rain and the snow
   come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
   without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
Isaiah 55:10-11
So what do you say? Are you cursing yourself with such words as “ugly,” “hopeless,” or “worthless?” Or, are you sharing God’s opinion of you?
…I am fearfully and wonderfully made…”
Psalm 139:14
It’s your choice, not as inexpensive as a mere two cents. Your words and your opinion of others and yourself can benefit you tremendously, making you and your life truly wealthy. But you choose!
“…choose you this day whom ye will serve…”
Joshua 24:15
