While the cover girl for the 50th anniversary of the Sports
Illustrated Swimsuit Issue remains under wraps, we know one icon who
will be making a major splash in the pages: Barbie.
The svelte blond doll will make her SI debut, wearing the first swimsuit she wore back in 1959 (pictured). Despite both Barbie and the magazine being criticized for promoting unrealistic body expectations, Mattel says that "posing in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit gives Barbie and her fellow legends an opportunity to own who they are, celebrate what they have done, and be unapologetic."
