The Hokey Pokey

The hokey pokey principle is a core element to recovery, isn’t it? How many of us have sung the ditty, danced it at some party or wedding? But there’s relevance to it. For those of us struggling with addiction, disorders and compulsions, what if we did one thing differently. What if we took a different step, said yes where we once said no, said no to what we once responded with yes? There’s a reason they’re called the 12 “steps” in recovery. They are steps, which, like the hokey pokey, can turn us around. And, what’s at the base of these steps? God! We may choose to overlook that, but, nevertheless, God is right in the middle of them! And He’s involved in our steps; He empowers us with them! “Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?” Job 31:4 “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.” Psalms 37:23 “The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.” Psalms 37:31 Do we believe and receive that? Do we ask for help from God with our steps, “to turn ourselves around?” “Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.” Psalms 119:133 “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:” Matthew 7:7 God has not changed His Mind about helping us; He will. He is, right now! So, let’s take a cue from the famous ditty. Let’s do the hokey pokey with our steps. Let’s allow God to help us with them. And let’s allow Him to turn us around! That’s what it’s all about! Copyright © 2013 by Sheryle Cruse
